The Russian-Born Billionaire At The Helm
Speaking of Vladislav Doronin...
The real estate mogul who had made his fortune in Moscow, then Miami, was frequently referred to as the "Russian Donald Trump" due to his holdings. He dated supermodels (including Naomi Campbell), indulged in megayachts, and didn't seem to shy away from the high-rolling "mysterious Russian billionaire" reputation branded by the press.
Until the Russian invasion of Ukraine, that is.
This spring, he sued the The Aspen Times for defamation after the publication dubbed him an "oligarch with ties to Russia" in a story about his recently acquired real estate in the ski town.
Questions began to swirl about the exact source of his wealth, and protesters started popping up outside of the Crown Building, demanding Doronin's statement on the war. He did end up publicly denouncing Russia's actions and saying he "fervently wish[ed] for peace."
Safe to say dude has had quite a few headaches lately.
