Inside The Warren Street Hotel, The Happy Hideaway Tribeca Desperately Needed

Tribeca specializes in overly sleek spots - places too slippery and sceney to hold onto let alone feel truly comfortable in. But with the debut of Firmdale's newest property, The Warren Street Hotel, it seems the glitzy downtown neighborhood may finally have found its much-needed escape from the trendy and try-hard.

Just off the hotel's shallow, welcoming lobby hums the Warren Street Bar & Restaurant, an art-filled, brightly fashioned all-day brasserie sure to prove a warm perch for a spot of breakfast, a cheerful stage for a working lunch, an easy place for grabbing last minute drinks, and, well, you get the point. 

One look at the space and it's easy to recognize the design calling cards of Firmdale Founder and Creative Director Kit Kemp. Similar to her two other New York hotels - Crosby Street and The Whitby - and string of London properties, this latest project brings a heritage feel with an irreverence for rules. Here, every piece of furniture and decor is somehow both a statement piece and a blend-in neutral. A verdure tapestry wallpaper heavy with stacked arts and crafts works conspires with a mix of rainbow zig zag banquettes and bold, colorful slipper chairs to create an overall scene that is, miraculously, quite calming. So busy it's not busy at all. 

For an even more relaxing space, through the dining room is the light-strewn Orangery, whose back wall features carved out cubbies displaying a magical installation of illuminated handmade ceramic pots by Martha Freud. Beneath two stunning leaf branch chandeliers, the room's white tableclothed tables are punctuated with topiaries. A most charming touch.

Beyond the ground floor's exciting offerings, each of the hotel's 69 rooms and suites were individually designed in keeping with Kemp's penchant for pattern play and strong color frequencies. Bookshelves brimming with the classics, record players complete with stacks of vinyl hits, landscaped gardens and terraces - each space is a thoughtfully curated home unto itself, with rates starting at $925 a night.

All in all we'd say the whole place is a fairy tale kaleidoscope of good vibes and fun taste.
