Shila. (Athens)

Outside of Ancient Greek wonderlands such as the Acropolis and the Parthenon (they are must-visits if you haven't gone already), Greece's capital city's aesthetic can best be described as, well, grey. That said, while it's full of grey concrete blocks of apartments, it doesn't feel grey at all: vim for life energizes the city's ubiquitous outdoor-terrace cafes, modish independent boutiques freckle the posh neighborhood of Kolonaki, and Plaka's tavernas serve Greek food alongside denizen singers belting out storied songs that galvanize local diners to get up and dance in the traditional form.

Situated in a 1920s building in Kolonaki, Shila. is an Athenian art enclave and boutique hotel encompassing six suites, each different from the last. Floral wallpaper, mosaic flooring, old-yet-preserved light fixtures, and an antique table dress the lobby. Taupe tones, eclectic art, and black bathrooms with swings occupy rooms, among other splendors. And for gathering, the rooftop serves as an atmospheric watering hole where local DJs spin tunes while guests mingle.
