Abasi Rosborough

If there's anyone who can coalesce formal wear and sportswear, it's Abdul Abasi and Greg Rosborough. They have what we call an easy-handed approach to formal menswear, pieces you can wear to a meeting and go to a concert in after. Their pieces are both red carpet appropriate and comfortable enough to lounge on the couch in. It's really an incredible feat from these two, but nothing unexpected. "Our design ethos is based on the convergence of functionality and utility," Abdul said. "We believe in being 'branded by design' and the seaming that we use is a direct result of human anatomy and how it interacts with the garment."

This collection was a study, or maybe a mirror image, of our society. A question arose: are we moving towards a utopia or a dystopia? Is all the new technology good for us or are we setting ourselves up like an Ayn Rand novel? Abdul explains they were "thinking about the current state of technology and how these tools can ultimately be used to create a Utopian age of love and enlightenment or a Dystopian nightmare. We used eastern influences to evoke a sense of zen philosophy and as the collection progressed, that image devolved into striking and powerfully saturated colors and layered and distorted silhouettes."

"Every detail of our show was conceived to be experienced in realtime at that instant," Abdul continued. "We collaborated with Ryan Burke for makeup and Kelela and Tosin Abasi for a live soundtrack, created only hours before show. The facial makeup and sculptures were a critique on biometrics and facial recognition technology." Need we say more?
