Water Mill is tiny, but it's full of potato fields, woodland trails, and golf courses just begging for a sneaker trampling. One of my favorite runs starts where Cook's Lane meets Scuttle Hole Road. Take Cook's until you reach the second series of fields (after the little house with about five minivans parked around its lawn). Run all the way down the field on the dirt part so you don't trample the plants, and bang a left when you reach the Atlantic Golf Course. Ignore the curious or irritated looks of the landscapers and golfers, and run until you reach dusty and narrow Noyac Path. Take a right on Noyac, rejoicing when you reach paved ground, and take it until the fork with Little Noyac (which is bigger than its sibling). Run down little Noyac until you hit the cable lines, which have a huge and hilly path under them. Take this all the way to Loper's Lane, and then take Loper's Lane to Scuttle Hole, where taking a right will deliver you back to Cook. There's also a lovely series of trails that branch off of Little Noyac, but I haven't figured out how to make them a loop. When I do, I'll let you know!
