Often used as a starting point to explore the surrounding beaches and islands around Thailand, Bangkok is a great place to see a lighter version of Thailand’s culture, while enjoying a vibrant social scene and more tourist-friendly sites. Along the Chao Phraya River which runs through the heart of Bangkok are the Royal Palace, Wat Arun Shrine, and Chinatown - where you can find some of the best street food stalls. After a full day of exploring Thai culture, you can move on to one of the many rooftop bar spots in Bangkok to watch the sunset while enjoying a tropical cocktail, such as the Lebua Tower (the scene of the crime for the Hangover II), or the more polished and less touristy Red Sky at Centara Central World. For those of you who want to party with the ‘high-so’ - Bangkok’s high society of socialites and celebrities - you can head to Thong Lor, an area with great restaurants such as Soul Food, and wonderful bars like Iron Fairies and Cloudz. To round off the night, book a table at Maggie Choo’s or Above Eleven.
Where to stay: What you want to do in Bangkok determines which hotel you should stay at. Located in the city center of Chidlom, the Skytrain (Bangkok’s overground metro) is a 5-minute walk away, with touristy sites a few stops in one direction and Bangkok’s nightlife area, Thong Lor, in the other. Hotel Muse’s art deco styled rooms are a sanctuary from the bright, neon lights of Bangkok and is a good break from the highly modern, design-heavy restaurants, bars, and clubs you will be spending your evenings in. Hotel Muse is also home to Speakeasy, one of the coolest rooftop cocktail bars in Bangkok; and Medici, the go-to Italian spot in town. The hotel also hosts one of the best champagne brunches in town with free flowing Moët & Chandon from 11:30am to 5:00pm, the first Saturday of each month.
