gstaadEven though Switzerland has long been a ski destination for many, St. Moritz and Gstaad such ideal spots that have to be mentioned. Located in the Eastern portion of the Alps, St. Moritz is famed for getting over 300 days of sunshine each year, making it a great place to spend winters. It has been the host of two winter Olympics and is the preferred training site for numerous athletes, making it a must-visit for those who have a penchant for skiing, snowboarding, and even snow bobbing. It is home to the Morteratsch Glacier and the four thousand meter high peak in the Eastern Alps, Piz Bernina. In addition to its natural landscape, St. Moritz comprises of stylishly elegant hotels and chalets, such as Badrutt’s Palace, providing a great getaway for travelers. On the other side of the country is Gstaad, which has become popular despite being relatively younger in its development (compared to St. Moritz). It is home to one of the largest ski areas in the alps, offering over 137 miles of ski and cross country ski slopes. Additionally, there are fun winter hiking trails. Should you need a break from the snow, the town is inundated with designer stores and fantastic spas.
