Lip Sync Battle Royale: Our Definitive Celebrity Ranking

John Krasinski: The original Lip Sync Battle is a reminder of why we all came to love this incredible movement. Jimmy opens with Melissa Manchester’s “Don’t Cry Out Loud,” which admirably demonstrates his penchant for power ballads. This is his most emotional performance, and has to be the reason he carried on this game. Questlove looks pensive, Krasinski cries on the side, and Fallon feels Baby’s pain. Jimmy’s second song shows off his promise in the rap world, as he slays Das EFX’s “They Want EFX.” However, he brings the cows home with his revolutionary interpretation of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Star Search Champion Sam Harris. This lets us see into the Jimmy of the 90s—the one who watched too much Star Search and memorized every performance, just in case he one day had to battle the expert in a Lip Sync Battle. Krasinski knows from the start, however, that he’s going to dominate. Syncing Kty Perry’s “Teenage Dream” with the utmost sincerity, he turns himself from beloved TV goofy guy to dreamboat extraordinaire. While Jimmy showed off his rap skills with Das EFX, Krasinski one-ups him with Run DMC’s “Peter Piper,” leading to heavy sighs from the crowd, claps, and amazement from the Roots. Not to mention his drop-and-catch-the-mic move, which is the origin of my rating system: Those mics, they’re expensive. And, in order to solidify his image as America’s favorite heartthrob, Kraskinski closes with Boyz II Men’s incredible “I’ll Make Love to You.” His performance is so soulful, so touching, so deep, that he could’ve penned the song himself.
