This is best described as performance art—Ferrell displays his knowledge of the “Drunk in Love” video, stunning his adoring audience. His second song, “Let It Go,” from Frozen, is a showcase of Ferrell’s acting abilities, as he completely encompasses the character of Elsa. With a final toss of glitter, Ferrell sparkled his way to Lip Sync Battle history. Jimmy uses props for the legendary “Since U Been Gone,” showing his affinity for early 2000s pop star songs. Making a lip sync feel like a Kelly Clarkson video is difficult, and yet Jimmy certainly succeeds. Not to mention, the literal mic drop at the end of the performance seals the deal. And remember that time I mentioned that Jimmy has a propensity to perform 80s song? This one is no different, but he brings out a special guest, Drew Barrymore, to clinch “Time of My Life” as one of the finest choreographed lip syncs of all time. Kevin Hart’s vertical challenge, per usual, is everyone’s favorite thing, as he approaches the microphone stand used by his tall competitors. His soulful rendition of “All of Me,” sung mostly to a tearful Ferrell, proves their true and everlasting love. His follow up, a bouncy performance of “Roar” by Katy Perry, had the crowd on their feet and clapping—a true mark of a great lip sync. Rating: 9 expensive microphones/10
