Nantes

The sixth-largest city in France is full of little-known wonders. Located on the Loire River in the upper Brittany region, it has long been known for its port and industry, but it provides all the charm visitors could ask for. The Château des ducs de Bretagne is a castle-turned-museum, but the true must-see is the Machines of the Isle of Nantes, an artistic and cultural project with mechanical animals and a carousel.
