The future is female! With fashion's overwhelming support of HRC, it's no surprise that #feminism is in style. (Let's just hope it's not a trend.) In Paris today, Dior's first-ever female creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, debuted a statement-making collection that proves feminist and feminine are hardly mutually exclusive. Among all the ruffles and tulle skirts, models (who themselves happened to be visual artists, medical students, and designers) wore bold T-shirts emblazoned with the terms "We should all be feminists," and "Dio(R)evolution." To drive the point home, Beyoncé echoed through the speakers during the show, and the runway was accompanied by her mix of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “We Should All Be Feminists” speech.
“I strive to be attentive and open to the world and to create fashion that resembles the women of today,” Chiuri said in the show notes. And those women? The likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Rihanna, Natalie Portman, and Kate Moss, who all had a front row view.
Welcome to the new wave, a Dior revolution indeed.
