Nat King Cole and Maria Ellington
Nat King Cole's 1948 wedding to Maria Ellington was truly "unforgettable." The Harlem wedding took place on Easter Sunday in the Abyssinian Baptist Church. Thousands squeezed into the Church and gathered throughout the streets in their Easter best as they awaited the event of the season. The bride wore an off-the-shoulder white gown with a timeless pearl necklace. Although Nat was hungover and Maria was apparently a nervous wreck, the wedding went on without a hitch. Guests followed the newlyweds to the Moderne Room at the Belmont Plaza, where they rejoiced the extroardinary union of Nat and Maria Cole.
