August: Obon Festival
When: August 15th
Where: Japan
Why: In Japanese tradition, people perform the Bon Dance in order to bring about family's ancestors. Japanese people bring about a variety of food offerings and welcome the spirits into their homes. At the end of Obon, people send off their ancestors' spirits with floating lanterns down a river into the ocean.
