By now we all know that the Gramercy Park Hotel is gone for good. Lucky for our taste buds, though, Danny Meyer's beloved restaurant, which opened at the property in 2009, managed to avoid the same fate.
Now dubbed Maialino (vicino), which translates to "nearby," the Roman-style trattoria has finally reopened after more than two years, making its debut at its new home at the Redbury Hotel.
The second coming of the eatery brings all the familiar warmth and rustic charm of the original, along with, thank the pasta gods, all of our favorite Italian dishes courtesy of Executive Chef Joe Downey-Zayas, including Cacio e Pepe, Bucatini all’Amatriciana, and Spaghettini alle Vongole. And yes, those blue checkered tablecloths have also returned.
Of course, there are also some exciting new updates to enjoy. Maialino's award-winning wine program is taking the spotlight at an all new wine bar addition, while an entirely reimagined cocktail menu has been curated by Maialino’s returning Beverage Director Cory Holt and Union Square Hospitality Group's Patrick Smith. Cheers to that.
Between all the newness and nostalgia, Maialino (vicino) is unsurprisingly back to being one of the hottest dining destinations in town.
