The James Beard Foundation Awards are known as the "Oscars of Food" for a good reason. Over 34,000 applications, a judging panel of 600 culinary professionals, and 21 different honors categories all culminate into one delicious ceremony on the first weekend of May. The James Beard Foundation was established in 1986 in commemoration of its namesake American cuisine maestro.
