Birds of a famous feather really do flock together... even when it comes to real estate.
Manhattan boasts plenty of buildings beloved by celebs, such as 443 Greenwich, the Tribeca residence that Bella Hadid and The Weeknd, Jake Gyllenhaal, Justin Timberlake, and Jennifer Lawrence have all called home.
But in Brooklyn, everyone's favorite burgeoning borough, there's The Standish. The Beaux Arts-style, 12-story building at 171 Columbia Heights recently made headlines due to one of its latest buyers, Matt Damon, breaking records with his purchase of a $16.75 million penthouse in the building - the most expensive residential property purchase in BK's history.
His neighbors? The likes of Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, Mary Louise Parker, and Paul Giamatti, along with a slew of high-powered New Yorkers. It was once even the (fictional) home of Superman in the original DC comic books.
So what's the big draw? Well, the historic building, formerly known as the Standish Arms Hotel, was built in 1903. But in 2017, the 122 rooms were converted into luxury condominiums - just 29 of them. Needless to say, the units are now much more spacious.
In addition to the refurbished apartments, amenities at the Brooklyn Heights building include a fitness center, 24-hour concierge, and a rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline. The limestone facade and gorgeous bay windows also make it the perfect combination of pre-war townhouse and modern high-rise. No wonder A-listers can't stop moving in.
