On top of a global pandemic, Black Americans have had to bear the continuous grief of the senseless violence, mistreatment, and deaths of people in their community both at the hands of the police and of white people. In the few months since lockdowns began in the U.S., we've learned the names of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd for heartbreaking reasons. We've also witnessed the weaponization of white privilege against people like Christian Cooper. It's an infuriating reality - and one that we all must take steps to dismantle. White allies, for one, can start by recognizing and understanding privilege, by sitting down and listening, and by educating themselves. It takes work. But right now, everyone can turn their anger into action by reaching into their pockets.
