The Allegations

Claims against Maxwell allege that the socialite employed recruiters throughout the world to lure women in by promising modeling gigs, educational opportunities and fashion careers in order to trap and groom them into sex slavery.

In 2015, a woman named Virginia Giuffre filed a defamation case against Maxwell, after Epstein's associated called her liar when she swore an affidavit a year earlier that Maxwell had recruited her into Epstein’s sex ring when she was just 16 in the year 2000. She had been working as a spa attendant at Mar-a-Lago at the time. After she was roped in, Giuffre claims she was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew and Alan Dershowitz, in addition to Epstein.

Another victim, Sarah Ransome, claimed in a 2017 lawsuit that Maxwell and Epstein "threatened to physically harm her or destroy any chance she would have of a fashion career if she didn’t have sex with them and others." Ransome withdrew the suit for unknown reasons in December 2018.

Maxwell has avoided any charges related to these claims... for now. A lawyer representing Giuffre told the Miami Herald, "The one person most likely in jeopardy [during the new Epstein case] is Maxwell because the records that are going to be unsealed have so much evidence against her."
