If the allegations against Maxwell are indeed true, some of her past advocacy appearances now seem sinister. In 2013, she spoke at a symposium hosted by Women: Inspiration and Enterprise, a network for female founders and executives. Her participation may have been related to The TerraMar Project, an ocean conservation nonprofit she launched in 2012.
She was also listed as one of the co-hosts of the 2014 Education Through Music Children's Gala, among some of New York's most-respected philanthropists.
