It appears the tradition of expansive, over-the-top Asian restaurant-lounges à la TAO and Budakkan is still alive and well in the Meatpacking District - how very Sex and the City. Helen's, a chain of watering holes with over 180 locations across China and Hong Kong, has opened its first North American outpost here in NYC, and it’s sure to join the ranks of its neighbors when it comes to a chi-chi, Asian-fusion night out.
The subterranean space is decked out in on-theme gilded accents, including wood-carved art and an Insta-worthy lotus wall. Cocktails are inspired by “iconic experiences” in both Asia and New York, with names like “Lost in Tokyo” and “Mandarin High Line,” and are served alongside small bites such as beef potstickers, spring rolls, and pork buns. The menu certainly checks all the boxes, but we’d stop in for the interiors alone.
