BM: She's great to work with! She has very fine hair, there are some extensions in there, but we just wanted to boost it up.
Now, you're the first woman to create her own line of hair color?
Yes. I think it's so empowering to women. When I first got into this business and moved to New York, the guys who I worked with would do this thing like, "Oh a woman in the hair color business?" and they were really mean. It was like being Estée Lauder or Helena Rubinstein. Like, it's a woman doing it, let them stand behind the counter and sell it but don't let them develop it, don't let them brainstorm it, don't let them talk to the chemists. Now, what I was able to do with this wonderful company, is have so much girl power! We have women chemists, our general manager is a woman, head of marketing, a woman. And I love men, and I date men, and men are great in business, but finally women are taking part in a largely female-targeted industry. Some men color their hair, but by and large, women want to be that great blonde, or that fabulous redhead, or that incredible brunette, why shouldn't a woman be able to guide this thing and make it right?
