Khash

Khash

What it is: The boiled feet of a cow. Well, mainly, the feet of a cow, but may include the head or the stomach/tripe of a cow. This dish is eaten in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran, and Georgia (the country, not the state). And since hooves/feet are not the tastiest part of any animal, they have to be kept in cold water to get rid of the smell after the HAIR has been removed and the hooves cleaned. They are then boiled for hours on end (through the night) so they can get it to a point where the meat is falling off the bone in a nice thick, smelly broth of what were smelly feet just a day before. To top it all off, this meal is usually eaten for breakfast. We think we’ll stick with our omelettes and OJ, thanks.

There is something similar to this called Pacha/Kaleh Pacheh in Iran and Iraq, and it is made with an entire sheep’s head and hooves. These guys thought of the yummiest things for the first meal of the day!

The only way we can think of stomaching something like that is with alcohol. Oh, yes - meal is always accompanied with vodka! Alcohol in the morning is something we can agree to.
