For your “Wild” Friend

Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney

Sally Rooney can be a polarizing author. If you subscribe to sad-girl culture, you’re pretty much guaranteed to love her work. If you find it hard not to judge others, perhaps best to sit her out. Conversations with Friends is about a university student in Dublin who falls in love with a married man. Everyone in this story is multi-dimensional and unlikable, but that’s the author’s intention. For fans of Difficult Women by Roxane Gay or Three Women by Lisa Taddeo, Rooney's novel is a deep dive into the life of a problematic young woman. To say I loved it would be an understatement.
