Timing Is Everything

It’s true in life, and it’s especially true for Rent the Runway. Betsy Jones, Senior Director of Brand Partnerships for Daily Front Row, told me that her Saturday morning routine is browsing RTR’s newest selection over a cup of coffee. This is the single most important thing to know about inventory: Saturday is the absolute best time to shop. Sure, your order won’t be shipped until Monday, but you’ll have an A+ selection to choose from. Veronica Beard? Reformation? It’s yours, girl. Don’t have a slot open? As long as you’re willing to pay for shipping, you can open up a new one at any time.

Best days for ordering: Tuesdays and Wednesdays, when weekend returns come in. If you live near a fulfillment center, you’ll have your selection in time for the weekend.

Worst day for ordering: MONDAYS! Nobody’s weekend outfits have been picked up by UPS yet, and the selection is at its most limited. Of course it’s worth it to check if your priority items are available, but as general rule, keep your slots open until Tuesday.

One of my favorite renters Liz Heit said it best - it’s worth it to sacrifice a delivery date for something you really want. Items are constantly being scanned in. The item you really want may not be available before the 2pm same-day shipping cutoff, but it could be available at 8pm that night. Sure, you may have to wait an extra day for the style; but if it’s something you’ve been dying to rent, it’s probably worth it. Browse constantly.
