What led to you launching Havoc Henry? Is there a story behind the name?
Well it started originally as a creative outlet for me under my old Halo 3 Xbox moniker “Beefwand.” This was around 2016 or so, but I had all these images and pictures I loved, but was too hesitant and scared to post them at the time on my personal Instagram account and didn’t like taking up the storage on my phone, so I began anonymously posting them on this burner account I created. I didn’t tell my friends or anyone about it for a long time, and it was totally just for me to store all these images or videos that to me meant something or that I at least wanted to remember. As time went on, I randomly started gaining an audience and the account began to grow. It probably wasn’t for another year or so at least, but after I had about 10 or 20 thousand followers, I began to tell my friends about it and was more comfortable owning up to the creative and emotional side I was sharing on this page that I tried to hide before. Fast forward another year or two and Covid strikes. I think we all went a little stir crazy for a moment there, and tried to see what projects we could take on or what else we could do. I knew I had this audience, but was not sure if I could transition and turn this (essentially glorified Tumblr turned Instagram page) into a brand.
It was beginning of summer of 2020 and I wanted a vintage Land Rover t-shirt for myself….but could not find one anywhere I liked. So I found one on a random online marketplace and then distressed it myself by tossing a little bleach on it. And right away my dad thought it was cool which was my first spurt of confidence. I wore it the next day and had random people asking me about it…so I decided I wanted to do this on a larger scale and see if I could sell these. It was the perfect covid project, and my first test to see if I could sell what I was making that gave me the push to create more, and I sold out of the t-shirts right away and still am asked by people if I can make more. By this time I was thinking about trying to pull this all together and turn my style/culture/random beefwand account into a marketplace and potential brand. I thought that if anyone were to take me seriously and with the vision I have for this, sadly the name beefwand had to go. Innuendos and silly sayings will always be part of what I am doing, but I wanted something that fit me a bit better for the next chapter of this and of me.
My middle hand is Henry, and I am a Jr., so often I toyed with the idea of going by Henry through my life. When I was offered a modeling contract right out of college, and almost went the modeling/acting route, it was suggested to go by Henry so I always thought about that alter ago and wanted Henry to be part of the name. I am also very attracted to double alliteration (Hugh Hefner, Hulk Hogan etc) and just always thought that sounded so much cooler. So I was sitting at home on night and a rapper I have loved “$not,” had just come out with the album Beautiful Havoc that week. One of the songs I kept playing over and over again was titled “Havoc,” and it kind of all hit me how that’s what I wanted. I went right to google to see if the name was taken, and thankfully I was in luck. That was the beginning of the rebrand and I changed my Instagram handle that weekend. I lost about 5 thousand followers that week who were loyal diehard fans of beefwand (lol), but I think it was worth it.
