In a time when the live music experience is paramount to fans and new festivals are persistently fighting for space in the calendar year, Matte Projects keeps it simple with their Full Moon Festival: no bloated lineups, exorbitant 3-day ticket prices, or neon-drenched guests.
Here it's just a cool crowd that wants a night of good vibes and a fun dance party in NYC. For the fifth installment, the event shifted from Governors Island to the Brooklyn Mirage, an indoor/outdoor pop-up space in Bushwick that has hosted the wildly popular City Fox events all summer, fit with sand and palm trees to create a unique tropical oasis amidst the industrial neighborhood. The lineup stuck to its roots with bright electro-pop and deep house acts including Penn Badgley's Mothxr, Soulclap, Tensnake, Yelle, and special guests Frank & Tony.
There were a few delectable food options including Mile End hot dogs and Tacombi tacos, but the highlight on the very hot day were the Bombay Sapphire grapefruit popsicles that even had slices of cucumber in them. Naturally the crowd was eclectic, but included some of our favorite downtowners such as Chelsea Leyland, Ben Pundole, Harif Guzman, Aerosyn Lex Mestrovic, and Sebastian Puga. Some of them even stuck around until the end of the party, long enough to catch the sunrise over the NYC skyline.
