A Year In Parties: The Illegal, The Virtual & The Pre-Pandemic

Held in March, just days before the city shut down and the full-on panic of realization struck us all, the Art Production Fund's 2020 Gala was for many on the circuit a true last hurrah. While the shift in social niceties was noticeable - elbow bumps replaced handshakes and air kisses were given a much wider girth - the edgier of the black tie set still packed into the Seagram Building to celebrate the art world's certified First Couple, Sarah Hoover and Tom Sachs, along with the Art Production Fund's Casey Fremont, Kathleen Lynch, and Yvonne Force Villareal. There were Jell-O shots and Chanel manicures, NASA-inspired installations, a rather BDSM performance by a ballerina clad in a catsuit, and appearances by Emily Ratajkowski, Nicky Hilton Rothschild, and David Byrne.
