The Wedding Dress Scandal
When your future mother-in-law is a celebrity fashion designer, there's certainly an expectation that she'd have some hand in designing your wedding dress... which is why tongues began wagging when Nicola walked down the aisle in a Valentino couture gown, rather than a VB creation.
In what seemed like an attempt to quell the feud rumors, Nicola clarified the situation in interviews, claiming that she had planned to wear something by Victoria, but the timing wasn't right with the atelier. "She didn’t say you can’t wear it; I didn’t say I didn’t want to wear it. That’s where it started, and then they ran with that," Nicola told Variety of the rumors.
However, her explanation in Grazia the next month seemed to throw a little more shade at her MIL. "We connected to start designing the dress, and then a few days went by and I didn’t hear anything. Victoria called my mom and said her atelier couldn’t make it. So, I spoke to my mom and [stylist] Leslie, and I was like, ‘Well, unfortunately, this can’t happen, so what’s the next step?’ I’ve been a fan of Valentino and their couture for so long. I was really lucky to be able to travel to [the atelier] to try on the dress. That’s really what happened."
