Ah, Charles Bukowski, the hard-partying poet and novelist who's right up there with Hunter S. when it comes to all of my ex-boyfriends' favorite writers. At a certain point in everyone's life, you either are a Bukowski bro or have fallen in love with one (regrettably). Well, you know what they say, folks: If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
Williamsburg hot spot Loosie's Kitchen & Cafe is toasting to the famous drinker with a new midday happy hour highlighting his vice of choice - wine. Lots of it.
Starting Wednesday, April 18th, the "Bukowski Hour" will run from 3 pm to 7 pm on weekdays, offering a rotating selection of rare, specialty vino for just $5 a glass. This week, the menu focuses on Chenin Blanc, a wine "often overlooked by folks who have a tendency to opt for classics like Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay," according to Loosie's.
To complement the booze, bar bites will include Creole spiced peanuts, pickled veggies, and even a Brisket Rillette with warm biscuit bites. Now that's sure to drum up some creativity in ya, huh?
"'I think I need a drink.'
'Almost everybody does only they don't know it.'"
