You're both from different ends of the hairstyling spectrum, how do you think your respective experience in coloring and cuts have lent itself to the salon? How about each of your personalities?

DeBolt: One of the things that I admire most about Ryan’s work is how much of himself he gives to his clients. Working as a colorist myself, I bounce from person to person, working on 2-3 clients at once. It’s like making dinner, once the roast is in the oven I start on the salad. Ryan works differently. He focuses on one client at a time and you can see that they have all of his attention and he’s bringing all of his experience from getting his celeb clients photo-shoot or red carpet ready. Having collaborated with so many fashion stylists, photographers and art directors, he has a very thoughtful approach for how to make each person feel and look like the best versions of themselves. He also loves to teach and loves sharing this with our team.

For me, I have spent the past 10 years traveling and teaching as an Ambassador for Wella Professionals. Being a great hairdresser is as much about doing a beautiful color as it is about having strong communication skills. When I plan a seminar for a salon or stage show, I like to include both technical skills elements, as well as communication skills. I’m very interested in positive psychology and team dynamics. One salon owner said to me once “We don’t use the word 'love' enough in business.” This really sums up our approach to working with our team. We believe that at Mark Ryan Salon, we grow together.
