Breakfast Tacos at Tiffany’s.
Enchiladas at the Plaza.
Happiness is Expensive.
Just a few of the brilliant works you'll find at the Alejandro Diaz: Words for White Walls exhibition currently on display at Ruiz-Healy Art on the Upper East Side.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Diaz's penchant for playful politics and activism with a wink is an infectious delight, made all the more poignant through the lens of his culturally rich Mexican American heritage.
Long before Instagram, Diaz was the original Dude With A Sign, hitting the streets of New York in the 90s to display and sell a series of cardboard signs painted with humorous, self-deprecating jokes.
Years later, his captivating commentary would move to canvas, with a range of brightly painted, text heavy pieces, interactive neon signs, hilariously juxtaposed found objects and more.
Curious much?
The must-see show is on view at Ruiz-Healy Art through June 24th so be sure to pop by!
