The Townhouse and Del Monte Speakeasy
Established in 1915, The Townhouse is one of L.A.'s oldest bars rich in wild history. Its basement, Del Monte Speakeasy, served as an actual speakeasy for people to get their fix during the Prohibition Era. Back then, alcohol was smuggled through underground tunnels from the Abbot Kinney Pier to its basement where it boasted a lively nightlife scene. Although there's no longer an illegal element to bar, Townhouse still embodies a rich vintage 1920s atmosphere. Today, Del Monte Speakeasy boasts burlesque shows, live jazz and spectacular hand-crafted cocktails reminiscent of its earlier era.
