Rosewood Tavern
So maybe a second mortgage isn't in your National Scotch Day plans, and you're more interested in a place where you can pair a dram with a hearty plate of food and maybe a good beer as well, all for less than it might cost you to get in the door of some of these other places. If that's the case, Rosewood Tavern, located right on Fairfax just a few blocks off Melrose, is an inspired choice. With a selection of whiskey bottles comprehensive enough that the bartenders have to use a ladder (always a good sign), you know you'll be able to find something to suit your taste, and paired with their gigantic fish & chips or slow roasted beef dip sandwich, it's pretty unbeatable. As one might expect based on the prices, quality and location, it gets pretty packed on nights and weekends, so come early to avoid having to sit at the communal table. Nobody likes communal tables.
