Turn Something Ordinary Into Something Extraordinary
As a hostess, have creativity and guts. No one wants to get dressed up and drive somewhere for the same old party. I think you have to make it worth their glam. You have to be willing to take risks and willing to change an ordinary thing into something different, unique, and special.
For instance, right before COVID, Tiffany’s asked me to host a lovely ladies’ lunch to look at jewelry. Now I always put myself in my friends’ shoes: I don’t want to get dressed up, drive somewhere, park, go inside, make small talk for a couple of hours, sit down at a stiff table, and then look at jewelry. For what? You can come over to my house to look at stuff! So rather than a normal lunch, I asked if we could make it a master gemological class. I asked for degrees, and they flew in their entire gemological team. Everyone had their lab coats with their names embroidered, we had these instruments to look at gems. It was literally a class. So we were certified by Tiffany & Co. for identifying precious gems and diamonds. It was really cute, with branded Tiffany’s pencils and notebooks. And it made a really good photo op with our lab coats and diplomas.
