Strange as this may seem, what inspired Zooey, Sophia Rossi and third co-founder Molly McAleer to found the website was a general perception that lots of entertainment websites focus on male-oriented, subtly (and unsubtly) misogynistic content that turns off smart, creative females who need to waste time on the web just as much as guys do. I know it sounds crazy–
the internet not upholding the highest general standards of humanity!?– but I think they might have a point. Like, I know the New York Times really botched the whole "paywall" thing, but I really thought adding all that hardcore pornography in an attempt to bring in new subscribers was over the top. At least they should have let someone other than
Tom Friedman be the first model.
