Shelter Island is considered part of the Hamptons, but it is truly an escape from all that is associated with summer in the Hamptons. The best thing about Shelter Island is the convenience, and the ability to experience all the nature Shelter Island has to offer in one day. A great day adventure is walking to the end of Wades Beach to watch the fiddler crabs. This spot, also known as crab creek, is definitely a sight to see. Thousands of crabs fill the sand, and burrow themselves in the small waters. A natural lazy river, many float in the channel and get carried away into the bay. At the end of the night, head to Shell Beach, the perfect place to star gaze. [Photo via]
