Shagwong Tavern
Shagwong Tavern is one of the oldest bars on Montauk's Main Street and was built by one of the town's pioneer architects Carl Fischer in 1927. It can proudly state that it is one of the few bars in Montauk that stays open all year round. The Rolling Stones, Elizabeth Taylor, John Lennon, Yoko Ono, and Paul Simon have all been charmed by the dark and dingy interior of Shagwong. The dark wood, vintage bar, and Peter Beard artwork all play an important role for the eccentric atmosphere. Located in the heart of Montauk town, Shagwong is the perfect place to down a few cheap drinks before you head somewhere a bit pricier. Take some time to check this archaic bar before its historic charm and friendly pub atmosphere are swept away for $6.5 million.
