The Last Days Of Disco
Based on Whit Stillman's own adventures at Studio 54,
The Last Days of Disco, again, explores a dying era, this time through the eyes of two girls played by
Kate Beckinsale and
Chloe Sevigny, in one of her first leading roles. Part three of what Whit called his "Doomed-Bourgeois-in-Love series," the film is fascinating for its portrayal of this dying dance culture and the denizens that frequented it.
Full of style and culture of early-1980s New York,
Disco is also a testament to the cyclical nature of the club scene. Flash-forward to today: Lady Gaga's riding high on her disco stick, and Ms. Sevigny's certainly never left that dance floor!
