Barcelona
Metropolitan goes abroad to
Barcelona, leaving behind the stuffy parlors of the Upper East Side to showcase wilder vistas, women, and fashions.
This is the story of a young naval officer who, after unexpectedly going to Spain, stays with his businessman cousin. The two, humorously named Ted and Fred, engage in the standard activities for Americans abroad in European cultures - crawl the city's nightlife and have affairs with various women. In the process, Whit has the opportunity to comment on cross-cultural relations with his trademark
witticisms:
I think it's well-known that anti-Americanism has its roots in sexual impotence, at least in Europe.
The film is inspired in part by Whit's own stay in Barcelona, where, after all, he met the Spanish woman who stole his heart.
