On the list of my all-time favorite things, men rank pretty high. This week has been just perfect for me as I was able to attend two male fashion shows, Geek 2 Chic and last night’s Men Against Breast Cancer’s 10th annual “Think Pink & Blue” Awards and Reception.
Although the catwalk was male only, the event, held at the Congressional Country Club, was hardly about the men at all--the night focused entirely on women and honoring breast cancer survivors, or as the evening’s mistress of ceremonies WUSA 9’s Andrea Roane suggested, breast cancer “warriors.”
The reception was to salute the 2012 Men Against Breast Cancer Honorees. Washington Redskins first lady Tanya Snyder, a breast cancer survivor, received the Inspiration Award for her dedicated advocacy of breast cancer awareness. Comcast sports reporter Chick Hernandez, whose wife is a breast cancer survivor, received the Courage Award, and Eagle Bank Foundation received the Humanitarian Award for having raised over $1,200,000 to benefit local organizations fighting against breast cancer.
The night was incredibly touching and inspirational, as well as entertaining. The runway saw a mix of some seriously good looking models from T.H.E Artist Agency, as well as celebrity appearances by Chris Baker, Joe Beninati, Tarik El-Bashir, Doug Kammerer, Brian Mitchell, and the always entertaining if not fabulously blown-out Paul Wharton.
Ladies' gift bags were provided by Bubbles, and Look Boutique provided the men with some serious swag as well.
The night was the perfect closing to a successful National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. [L: Cat walk action by Brian Mitchell, all time Redskins great and Comcast SportsNet host]
