This past Saturday, DC fashionistas flocked to the Madewell store in Georgetown to catch a glimpse of style icon and young mogul Alexa Chung and celebrate her recently debuted collection.
The line for the event stretched down Wisconsin Avenue long before the store opened its doors. Inside, guests enjoyed the sounds of DJ Tennessee Thomas [pictured, below left] while munching on authentic English toffees and biscuits.
Equally inspired by Alexa’s English heritage, drinks included tasty Pimm’s gin and tonics. Shoppers also received complimentary manicures inspired by the tropical prints used in the Alexa Chung collection.
[Upstairs, guests were greeted by Alexa herself as she posed for pictures and graciously answered questions.]
Flanked on both sides by her own designs, Alexa revealed the inspiration for her collection, which features updated classics like the peter-pan collar and the “donkey jacket,” the coat typically worn by garbage men in the UK. Other pieces, like the Jean Shrimpton coat and Jane Birkin dress, pay homage to Alexa’s personal style icons.
With yet another successful collaboration under her belt, will an Alexa Chung label be in her future? We can’t wait to see what she does next!
