4. Times are changing
According to a Gallup poll in November 2011, a record-high 50% of Americans now say the use of marijuana should be made legal, up from 46% last year. When Gallup first asked about legalizing marijuana, in 1969, 12% of Americans favored it, while 84% were opposed.
In a 2010 Gallup poll, which asked about legalizing marijuana for medical use, the poll found “support significantly higher than it is for legalizing the use of marijuana in general. Seventy percent of Americans say they favor making marijuana legally available for doctors to prescribe in order to reduce pain and suffering,” although this figure is down slightly from other times in the 2000’s.
