Since the arrival of the FLOTUS to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, fashion in our nation's capital has been under the keen eye of fashion designers, style writers and bloggers. Itching to dress the MObama are a slew of young designers trying to strike gold with their name in headlines of fashion mags and blogs. Speaking of blogs, fashion blogging has reached a fever pitch in Washington, with blogs that fuse fashion and politics, style profiles, frugal fanny blogs and others that are hoping to become the next Jane Aldridge or Tavi Gevinson.

This past Saturday marked the launch of a new fashion blog, Fashion Delegate (www.fashiondelegate.com), started by Marketing exec Portia Hood and lobbyist Jennifer Fisher, who want to expose the world to the Washington fashion. What better way to celebrate a fab Saturday afternoon than in the backyard of Washington Redskins Running Back Clinton Portis' tricked out mansion. Portis opened up his McLean, VA mansion to ladies in sunny frocks and dapper gents sipping on Ciroc cocktails poolside in the name of fashion. Girls looking to meet the Redskins bachelor or any of his "ball player pals" were left disappointed since Portis was no where to be found but we certainly understand because the day belonged to the two fashion delegates, Hood and Fischer.

Weeks leading up to the blog launch, guests were kept on the tippy toes of their Louboutins with a hush hush invite sans address to avoid any party crashers or shall we say, the "un-fashionables." Welcoming Portia and Jennifer to the fashion blogosphere were Washington bloggers Kate Michael of K Street Kate, The Traveling Talk Show, Pamela's Punch as well as WJLA news anchor Cynne Simpson, Saks Fifth Avenue - Tyson Galleria's marketing head Heather Shaw Menis, Politico Click's Kiki Ryan and Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce prez Christine Brooks-Cropper and America's Next Top Model contestant Bianca Chardei, who modeled pieces from Washington designer Tashia Senn, an FIT grad making big waves with her sophomore collection that critics praise as "charming, elegant, regal and lady-like."
