Pop Up On U Street At Affinity Lab

The Monument Music and Arts Festival staged Pop Up on U Street, which brought together local artists, art fans, musicians.  Guests went to town on free booze and food, and a portion of the proceeds benefited Dreams For Kids.

Josh Phelps, who along with a couple others is planning Monument Music and Arts Festival for next summer, thought it would be fun to do an event every month leading up to next summer's festival to get the word out and also benefit some of the local philonthropic orgs.

Pop Up on U Street was conceived of as a collaborative event in a collaborative workspace (the Affinity Lab).  The event aimed to provide opportunities to local artists in a setting that would be publically accessible and less stuffy than your average exhibition.

With such a wide range of works and such a diverse list of media it was incredible to see how well the show flowed and became such a strong body of work. The musical acts,

Mattew Hemerlein,

One Big Woo and

DJ Philippe Chetrit

performed in an atmosphere in which listeners surrounded them and could fully investigate the sound and how it was being produced.

Of the art pieces auctioned eight out of ten sold, not counting the silent auction.

The show will be up for one month at the Affinity Lab on U Street.  Until the exhibit closes, the pieces will continue to be auctioned off.
