Speaking of DC Arts, last night the young artists of the Washington National Opera's Domingo-Cafritz Program performed Mozart's The Marriage Of Figaro, with an after-party at Circle Bistro.-
The event was sponsored by Generation O, the WNO's young professionals group. Generation O members get discounted mini-subscriptions to the season as well as invitations to a variety of social events and parties.
The program is, of course the brain child of WNO general manager Plácido Domingo, (but we call him P.Diddy.) Sure, he's the top tenor in the world and has sung more roles than any other tenor in history, but perhaps his most lasting achievement will be bringing young audiences into the Opera house. P. Diddy has spearheaded opera programs for the 18-40 set in both DC and Los Angeles (He also manages the Los Angeles Opera Company.) Under his direction, Generation O has become the largest Young Patrons organization in DC. He says,
"Where else can you intricate scenery, fantastic lighting, exciting choreography, and the world's most beautiful music, all in one live performance? Where else can you be surrounded by your peers in a classic, sophisticated setting?"
Indeed, the guests at last night's event seemed to be enjoying both the performance and the Figaro inspired cocktails (A Cherubino martini?) and hors d'oeuvres after the performance. Attendees who opted to choose the VIP package were even invited backstage.
