The Rock and Roll Hotel has announced the official line-up of the first ever H Street Festival – a six-block, 11-band blowout going down on Saturday, September 18th. For free. Kicking off at noon, the festival will feature two stages of D.C. bands, including H.R. of Bad Brains fame, Fort Reno alums Power Pirate and producer/beatsmith DJ Keenan (who, incidentally, rocked it last weekend at Jimmy Valentine's).
Music may be the centerpiece, but the festival is also putting on slew of side attractions, including art exhibits, fashion shows featuring local boutiques, dance performances from Joy of Motion, a boxing ring and, perhaps best of all, a pie eating contest -- no doubt sponsored by the heavily tattooed dudes of D.C.'s only pastry shop-slash-bar, Dangerously Delicious Pies. The RNR Hotel itself will be celebrating the occasion with their own DJS, $2 PBR drafts and cotton candy on their patio.
Seeing as the festival will be shutting down six blocks from noon to 6 PM and that H Street is still all tore up due to streetcar construction, the organizers are wisely running the H Street Shuttle (and a bike valet) all day for those beyond walking distance of Northeast. Find out more here and here.
And, for anyone keeping count, that's two free festivals in two weeks with Virgin Mobile FreeFest coming back on September 28th to ceremonially end the summer season.
