Artscape 2010: 30 Years Of Free Art Festival Going

by MADELEINE STARKEY · July 20, 2010

This past weekend, Friday through Sunday, marked the 30th anniversary of Artscape, the nation's biggest free art festival.  Musicians, dancers, performance artists and the like headed to Baltimore, MD, you know that city that's an hour away and kind of like our kid sister?

Part of the beauty of Artscape is the combination of high and low art forms.  We're not judging which art forms are better than others, but rather making the distinction between more classical genres, such as opera, and more recently developed, progressive forms such as break dancing.

For example, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Baltimore Concert Opera performed, but Artscape also featured this break dancing battle.  Whether it was impromptu or part of the line up, we can't say.  There were so many acts over the course of four days it's hard to know which witch is which in all the performances.

Whatever the prescience of this dance off, it lasted well into the night.
