Racing in Louis Vuitton Classic Serenissima Run: Monte-Carlo to Venice
In late April around 40 racers rev the engines of their extremely rare vintage cars in front of the Casino de Monte Carlo in Monaco. The multi-day race spans 870-miles across the French, Swiss, and Italian borders, and passes through the Alps, Italian lakes, and French back country. However, it isn't all work and no play. There are planned stops for champagne and gelato in Menthon-Saint-Bernard and the Louis Vuitton shoe-making headquarters presents blue suede driving shoes. The finish line is as picturesque as the starting line in the Piazza San Giorgio on St. Mark's Canal, in front of the 16th Century Church of San Giorgio Maggiore. In fact, the event's name "serenissima" is derived from the serenity of the Venice square. This final event is the Moët & Chandon at a gala dinner at the Giorgio Cini Foundation where participants can mingle with revelers including Antonine Peduzzi and Luisa Orsini, the designers of the bag line TL-180.
The title sponsor Louis Vuitton has long been associated with glamorous travel since they designed the first automobile trunk in 1987. Vuitton extends invitations to a handful of handpicked participants, and the caliber of cars rival the finest car shows and automotive museums in the world, with a cumulative value exceeding $250 million.
