Ha Long Bay
The gem of Vietnam, Ha Long Bay, located four hours outside of Hanoi, offers one of the most stunning views on the planet. The name means "descending dragon bay" because of its wicked rock formations. Hop on a guided boat and cruise around the limestone rocks while stopping next to locals selling produce and fish you've never scene. It's one of the best spots in Vietnam to eat seafood, offering 200-plus species of fish and 450 different kinds of mollusks. Go for steamed or baked Tu Hai, a kind of shellfish that can also have the unappetizing name of snail spout. It's distinct taste is a favorite of tourists and locals. For outdoor adventure, explore the numerous caves on the islands, or visit the most famous island, Cat Ba, where you can take on the daunting task of scaling the karst.
