That white people love farmers markets is indisputable. They are also, we're told, pretty big fans of the Hamptons, so the news that the Struk family's beloved Amagansett Farmers Market will not be open by Memorial Day weekend must come as a real blow. The market will reopen again, thanks to a generous donation by Amagansett resident Margaret de Cuevas. Cuevas bought the property for $5.4 milllion, and is bequeathing development rights to the town and the market building itself to the Peconic Land Trust. Still, four-way contracts can take ages to hammer out -and in the meantime, who will make our muffins and sell our summer cookout fixings?
